Common conversation you will hear during meal time

Maayong adlaw mga higala (Good day my friendss!)

I will share the common conversation you will hear during meal time. Here they are.

1. Manga-on na ta!
    Let's eat now!

Mangaon - eat
ta - derive from the word "kita" means "us"
na - I don't think there is an equivalent of this word in English. It denotes that something will be done.

Manga-on na ta?
Are we going to eat now?

Notice the difference in meaning?

2. Kanus-a ta mangaon?
    When are we going to eat?

Kanus-a - when

3. Unsay ganahan nimo kan-on?
    What do you like to eat?

Unsay - what
ganahan - like
nimo - you
kan-on - act of eating

4. Unsay sud-an?
    What's the main dish?

Sud-an - refers to the main dish

5. Pag-baseyo na sa lamesa
    Set the table now.

Pag-baseyo - set or prepare the plates, cups, fork and spoon.
lamesa - table
sa - the

6. Mokaon ka or dili?
    Are you going to eat or not?

Mokaon - to eat
ka - you
dili - not


Remember these words refers to eating.
Mangaon, kaon, mokaon, kan-on

7. Lami?
    Is it delicious/ yummy?

   Yes: Lami kaayo.
           It's really delicious/yummy.

   No: Walay lami
           It's not delicious/yummy.

8. Kinsa may nagluto sa sud-an?
    Who cooked the main dish?

Kinsay - who
nagluto - cooking
sud-an -main dish

9. Filipino culture:
Scenario: eating at home

"Manga-on ta"
- inviting someone to eat with you

Most of the time, it’s act of respect.
But when inviting,
be ready to offer something.

10. Our usual response are…

“Salamat pero humana ko”
  Thank you but I ate already. 

“Sige, salamat”
  Go ahead, thank you.
